Just Do Something

We are just back from a trip to see #1 son, in New Brunswick. It is really hard to get back into the grove again, after spending nearly 2 weeks as wanderers.
The other day, I just wanted to sew something. I wanted a quick fix, some instant gratification. So, I pulled out a dress that had been hanging in my closet for some time, unworn. I loved the fabric, but somehow the dress was not working for me. I made the dress a number of years ago, and I suspect it never worked for me, but for awhile, I was able to kid myself.
After a small amount of work, and the addition of some nice soft elastic, I now have a new skirt. Ta Da.

The fabric was an inexpensive rayon batik that I got at Fabricland. I washed it about 10 times to get the dye to all wash out, so it didn't run any more. The resulting fabric is lovely and soft, so the skirt hangs and drapes nicely. I wore it to my quilt group on Monday and got lots of positive comments. The fabric was meant to be a skirt.

Dolly the Wonder Dog was feeling neglected after the post about kittens, so I will post one of her vacation shots.

A classic New Brunswick shot, the big lobster in Shediac.

  1. Fabric always knows what it wants to be. We just have to learn how to listen. Dolly doesn't seem too impressed by the giant lobster.

  2. I made a dress once that just didn't want to work out no matter what I did to alter it and fix it up. I think I ended up giving it to my sister.

  3. One?? picture of Dolly? That does NOT make up for that incredible kitty post. You'll have to try again. Look at how sad Dolly looks! "I've suffered and I'm still waiting," that's what she's saying. :)

  4. The skirt looks like it will now serve you very well! And since I collect (what a weird thing to collect) pictures of 'big things' in canada, I love both the lobster and Dolly. A very handsome dog, furshur!
