Still Knitting

With furnace troubles and extreme cold, I find that I have spent most of the week, hiding under a quilt, knitting.

My test knit piece is nearly done.

A closeup of the stitches.

The colour really provides a lift on our "Oh my goodness that is cold" days.

No sewing got done. I had an idea for the Project Quilting Prompt 13.2. The prompt was silhouette and I think I will follow through with it, but it won't be done in time for the deadline of 2PM today.

Meanwhile, my plants are deciding to provide some cheer.

This orchid was a grocery store purchase, years ago. I only remember it flowering once before, after the original blooms were gone. I wonder what we did right this time.

The azalea was slated for trimming but it had other ideas.

Obviously, the secret to indoor flowers in Canada, in winter, is benign neglect.

  1. Somewhere I have a pattern book with scarves, from Scotland, some very old passed down from years before. Let me know if you would like me to copy and email to you. One is called Pineapple, you start either end then graft together in the middle. Love your colours, do keep warm, as we try to keep cool with 29C and more in some places.

  2. Your shawl and your flowers match quite well, don't they? Very cheery on a winter day!

  3. You're right about winter flowers. I had an orchid given me when my DH died and I think it lasted almost a decade, blooming whenever it wanted. I over-winter my geraniums in a south-facing window; one year even the lobelia in the pots kept going! And I agree -- the colours in your shawl match those in your flora!

  4. You have a wonderful indoor green thumb! Love the colours of the yarn, does it come in non wool for those of s who cannot touch real wool? Stay warm and toasty, it is too cold to go outside.

  6. Furnace problems in winter are no fun. It's great that you're still knitting that wonderful scarf and it shows that you're in a good mood. Gorgeous colors... And your plants are with you.
p.s. I hope and keep my fingers crossed that it's warm in your room again. Hug
